New World Development announces the formation of the New World Green Transport Alliance in partnership with Shell and Sime Darby Motors, aiming to install over 100 EV charging points in Hong Kong.

New World Development Company Limited (NWD) has formed the New World Green Transport Alliance (NWGTA) with Shell Hong Kong Limited and Sime Darby Motors Group, the sole importer and distributor of the BMW brand in Hong Kong and Macau. The alliance is investing HK$50 million over the next three to five years to advocating for green living in the city, specifically with the reinforcement of electric vehicle (EV) usage.

NWGTA will install over a hundred universal EV charging points in Hong Kong starting from October 2022. The two partnership organisations will also work with NWD to develop an EV rewards programme and other promotional activities.

Jay Liu, the General Manager, Strategic Alliances of New World Development, commented, “In the spirit of Creating Shared Value (CSV) to address social needs and commit to a sustainable future, we initiated the NWGTA in collaboration with like-minded partners to echo with the government’s initiatives to enable a wider use of EV. By installing EV infrastructure under our extensive property portfolios, we aim to foster and further green mobility at scale in Hong Kong.”

Aligning with the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles introduced by the government in March last year targeting zero vehicular emissions by 2050, and ceasing the new registration of fuel-propelled private cars, including hybrid vehicles in 2035 or earlier, the NWGTA aims to support the local community in meeting these targets.

With the support of Shell and Sime Darby Motors, the NWGTA will equip NWD properties, such as K11 MUSEA, K11 Art Mall, and more, with charging points that are compatible with the majority of EV models in the market. Some of these charging points will support fast charging from 10% to 80% within 60 minutes.

“Shell’s goal of tackling climate change synchronises with the city’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Thanks to our strategic sustainable partner New World Development, we are accelerating the expansion of our Shell Recharge footprint in Hong Kong, driving Energy Transition and Green Transport together,” shared Emily Leung, the General Manager, Mobility Hong Kong & Macau, of Shell Hong Kong Limited
