Hong Kong’s highly anticipated Happy Hour app is launching on Saturday in partnership with multiple local restaurants and bars. The app will give users the ability to find the best happy hour deals near them.

Happy Hour Hong Kong (HHHK), an app which helps users discover happy hour deals and bars in their area in the city, is officially launching this Saturday, the 27th of November. Founder Mark Sinclair recognised a gap in the market for an app similar to OpenRice that is specifically catered to where to get the best drink deals.

In an interview with SCMP Sinclair stated, “There are apps out there that have a lot to do with food, and they’re quite flooded with information, so what I want to do is create a minimum viable product that does exactly what it says: you are looking for a happy hour, which is a one-touch app where you can search it by location and it tells you where the closest happy hour is.”

Users can simply input the location of their choice and determine which bar will be best suited to their desires. Currently, over 400 bars are listed and this number is steadily growing. Not only is this app extremely useful for users, but it also provides a platform for businesses that may be struggling to get back on track following Covid-19 shutdowns to promote themselves.

Many Hong Kong residents may relate with Sinclair’s sentiment that the ways in which bars and restaurants advertise their happy hours are not too accessible, often consisting solely of street signs or out of date sites. Sinclair also observed that many bars are not on street-level, and thus remain unbeknownst to the average consumer.

Sinclair’s app has actually been live since February, but with Covid-19 impacts on the F&B industry and thus limited demand for the app’s function, the official launch celebration was postponed until tomorrow.

“More people are out and about now, so we just thought this is the time,” said Sinclair.

Sinclair also hopes to integrate featured events, including special deals for holidays like Halloween and sporting events.

Ahead of the app’s official launch, Happy Hour Hong Kong has partnered with several bars in the Central area including Gomes’ Gastropub on Caine Road, McSorley’s on Staunton and Holy Eats on Elgin, where app users will have access to exclusive one-night-only deals.

Launch attendees should keep their eyes peeled for a 6ft tall man in an orange suit- HHHK’s mascot.
