This month for Movember, the Hive’s members are growing out their mos and collaborating for a fundraising event about men’s health, supporting prostate and testicular cancer research as well as mental health and suicide prevention.

It’s that time of the year again when handlebar moustaches sprout their way back onto the scene, bringing conversations about men’s health to the forefront. It’s all thanks to The Movember Foundation, a global charity campaign that works to raise funding for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide prevention. For some members of the Hive Hong Kong, it’s a cause that’s very close to home. “I’ve suffered from depression since I was a child, and it’s been hard work to manage and live a seemingly ‘normal’ life. I didn’t even realise I had depression until quite recently,” says Uppercut’s Tony Ko.

Tony, among other Hive community members, will be taking part in an event at the Hive Studios on 27 November, where there will be a panel discussion and marketplace, all in the name of men’s health. Setting out to support the cause, Tony, along with Printhouse founder Hughie Doherty and James Thomson-Sakhrani, founder of men’s online boutique Style Standard, will be just a few of the vendors at the event who are donating a percentage of its profits to the Movember Foundation.

For James, his involvement means working to remove the stigma. “After millennia of telling men to not be emotional or weak, it’s bizarre to think that we’re now looking at having to break down those barriers before we start thinking about doing anything else.” When it comes to cutting shame out of the conversation, James isn’t alone. Collaborators include Please Drink Sustainably, Pilsner Urquell, Selvedge Grooming and Barock Barber Shop

So, shave the date and head over to Hive Studios to break down walls, start conversations and raise funds. It’s a pretty great opportunity to show off your Movember Mo too, since, after all, What You Grow Will Save A Bro!
