Visit and adopt from these incredible animal shelters and rescues charities in Vietnam to take a new beloved pet home and support a good cause.
With more individuals and charities influenced by national and international animal advocacy campaigns rising to the challenge, animal welfare in Vietnam is becoming more prevalent.
Dog meat consumption and illegal trade have been long-standing practices in the region, and increased animal welfare awareness by advocates in Vietnam is putting a halt to such traditions. This recent revelation has led many Vietnamese people to consider fostering or giving abandoned and rescued animals a forever home.
While Vietnam has come a long way, there is still plenty of work to be done. In 2015, the Asia Canine Protection Alliance (ACPA) launched their “Ve di Vang oi” campaign to raise awareness and compassion towards rescued animals, demanding an end to the trade, slaughter, and consumption of dogs nationwide. Furthermore, Vietnamese youth and many other emerging charities in Ho Chi Minh City are taking necessary action to spread love for abused and rescued animals country-wide, aiming to change people’s perceptions.
Advocating change and urging locals to reform their attitude towards pet culture, here are some of the local animal shelters, charities, and causes in Vietnam leading by example.
Laws For Paws
On a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abused and abandoned dogs, Laws For Paws is a nonprofit volunteer organisation based in Vietnam. Launched as an initiative to address the growing problem of dog abuse, trade, and slaughter in the country, Laws for Paws soon became the leading name among other animal charities in Saigon, working closely with many reputable veterinarians for the treatment and care of these rescues.
The nonprofit has run various successful adoption campaigns, finding their fostered pets a forever home with loving families. Their initiative aims to reduce the demand and operations of industrial-bred puppies by actively advocating and educating people on animal welfare and the cruel practices behind such breeding procedures.
Laws for Paws also hosts regular educational workshops with schools and other organisations to enforce positive behaviour and attitude towards pets, while teaching them proper animal care and compassion.

ARC Pet Rescue
Founded and operated by a group of animal lovers – ARC Pet Rescue is an animal rescue and rehabilitation charity focused on raising local awareness of cruelty and the welfare of dogs and cats in Saigon. The nonprofit has adopted various initiatives and services to support neglected and abandoned animals in the city, from running regular rescues, to nurturing those pets, to facilitating adoption and fostering. Prior to putting the rescued animals up for adoption, the ARC ensures a full medical check, and advocates for low-cost sterilising and neutering, as a means to prevent and reduce the number of strays in the city.
As easy as it may seem to adopt a furry little buddy, ARC Pet Rescue understands the complexity of the process, and encourages families to conduct a review, providing them with adoption counselling to find their best match.

Rescue Animals in District 7
Rescue Animals in District 7 (RAD7) was established in 2018 as a pet rescue and welfare charity dedicated to rescuing and finding a forever sanctuary for strays in District 7. RAD7 has initiated various undertakings to clear the streets of stray dogs and cats while fostering and ensuring proper care and necessary treatment of rescues. All RAD7 pets receive a veterinary assessment and are spayed or neutered upon rescue.
Since the charity operates without a shelter home, the rescued dogs and cats often make temporary homes with volunteers until they are adopted into new families. In order to keep its initiative going, the RAD7 heavily relies on their volunteer base and donations to expand its community efforts and support network.

Yeudongvat Foundation
Yeudongvat Foundation (YDV Foundation) is dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned animals, and has made great strides in spotlighting and advocating animal welfare and compassion throughout the city. Started in Ho Chi Minh City in 2010, the nonprofit advocates animal protection and support through its many initiatives, including offering rescue and sterilisation services, and nurturing and caring for abandoned pets, while bridging the gap between animal welfare groups and those looking to adopt. The organisation has also put in great work raising social awareness of various animal-related issues in the region.
Vietnam Animal Aid
Vietnam Animal Aid is a registered nonprofit and animal welfare organisation based in Hoi An, and has established itself as the sole anti-speciesist rescue charity in the region. Extending its services and offerings to all animal species, the organisation works towards breaking the stigma and educating the public on the welfare of rescued breeds. Running an animal shelter and farm sanctuary in Hoi An, the massive property is home to various domestic animals and other livestock breeds, such as cats, dogs, pigs, chickens, and even hedgehogs.
Its facility also offers veterinary assistance delivering the best care and nourishment for those animals. In addition, Vietnam Animal Aid hosts community events for people to visit and connect with rescues, and is actively involved in advocating vegan living as means to stop animal exploitation.

Paws for Compassion
Paws for Compassion was founded by two passionate animal lovers and advocates, Dom and Lexie, in Danang, Vietnam. The nonprofit began as a platform to educate and inform locals on animal welfare and protection, hoping to improve the lives of abandoned pets, and now also provides a safe haven for those rescued from the meat trade industry, and offers rehabilitation and rehoming services.
To maximise its impact and tackle animal overpopulation and welfare issues from the root of the cause, Paws for Compassion works closely with various pet healthcare services to provide low-cost spaying or neutering, vaccination, and improve veterinary care. Since its inception, the volunteer-run charity has successfully rescued over 500 animals, with around half of them finding loving forever homes.
