Located on Peel Street, Central, just below Stauton’s Wine Bar is 99 Bottles, a perfect spot for al fresco with steps and platforms to chill. The idea started in 2017 a collectively opened side project by three friends, Geoff Wong, James Graham, and Chris Tsao. Donning a convenient store style interior, 99 Bottles aims to offer much more than your average traditional chain store.
With multiple outlooks on the business, their main goal is to provide some of the best elements of Hong Kong drinking culture in their convenient store. They’ve combined the popular street drinking culture with a wide selection of draft and bottled craft beers, wines, and liquor, of which many aren’t readily available in commercial bars.
Offering drinks at the fraction of the price for a pint or bottle, from HK$45 for a pint of draft craft beer and HKD $38 for house wines. The core idea behind 99 Bottle is for everyone to enjoy and pay for what they’re getting with no hidden costs or prices. For these three gentlemen, every hour is happy hour.
Aside from a strong belief in Hong Kong’s unique drinking culture and ensuring that their customers are happy, the 99 Bottles team believes in creating a community. From its inception to making the bar into a reality, it’s all about supporting local businesses.
Everything is locally sourced from the store development stage to the craft beer and even something as simple as the print house used for printing t-shirts. Joining recycling initiatives, the team uses biodegradable vegetable plastic cups to support the environmental movement.
With so many small upcoming businesses in Hong Kong, 99 Bottles has made it their goal to work with the local community to create better relations and support one another from the bottom up.
