Walking into one of the oldest department store in Bangkok, The Old Siam Plaza had been the centre of silk products but today, it remains as a place which celebrates traditional Thai culture. With original decor from 1993, the place is painted in yellow and decorated with ceramic tiles.

Unknown to most people, there is a hidden entertaining on the 3rd floor of the food court with a stage, piano and speakers. We discovered men and women aged from 40 to 80 years old come here for the afternoon and overtime, it has become a rare creative community for family and friends to meet up every now and then.

Resembling a ballroom and attracting part-time dancers to join the floor, the seniors waltz around and entertain their audience as we feel the warm feelings amongst the family.

Nopamas, 67, a regular customer shared her memory with us, “I consider myself the youngest one here because I once met a guy who just passed 80 (laughs). I have been coming here since it was an outdoor fabric market 20 years ago. So, coming back here is like coming back to best friends and singing is a bonus.”

Singing schedules are displayed on the whiteboard next to the stage. If you feel like singing, just go to the board, book time and you are good to go. There are several song books in Thai and international classics from 1950s to 2000s. So, make a note in your diaries for your next family gathering and get ready to have a great time.
