Singapore-founded Rocket Academy expands to Hong Kong, bringing their in-demand coding bootcamps to the city’s tech talents to unlock opportunities for aspiring engineers.
Founded in Singapore in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, Rocket Academy trains software engineers and has taught over 1,000 students with 100% of their Bootcamp course graduates now working at tech companies such as DBS, UBS, Standard Chartered, and Zendesk.
The EdTech startup recently announced its expansion into Hong Kong, with a focus on building practical, in-demand coding skills and a strong network of hiring partners, to best prepare their students for software engineering roles at leading companies.
Hong Kong’s tech industry’s growth is currently facing a bottleneck as the demand for skilled workers increases while companies take the necessary steps towards digital adoption, they are struggling to find the talents needed to build innovative solutions.
Jeffrey Wu, the Director at MindWorks Capital, stated, “Hong Kong’s tech talent shortage stems from its industry structure, as traditional sectors dominate and technology jobs are underrepresented. This imbalance increases hiring costs and makes attracting and retaining top talent difficult, and salaries may potentially exceed skill levels.”
Hong Kong-raised Neo Kai Yuan founded Rocket Academy to address the mounting global talent shortage of software engineers and make high-quality technical education accessible to all, building from his experience interning at leading tech companies including Facebook and Alibaba.
“I chose to launch our first overseas branch [in Hong Kong] where I had observed a pressing need for more software engineers to support its growing tech industry. I believe that with the right training and support, homegrown talent can help meet this need. We pride ourselves on the relevance of our curriculum. Graduating from Coding Bootcamp will equip students with in-demand skills and prepare them to launch their careers as software engineers,” shared Neo Kai Yuan, the Founder and CEO of Rocket Academy.
Rocket Academy offers two courses where students of all experience levels can emerge as full-stack software engineers. All classes are conducted fully online and students can openly communicate with instructors hailing from major technology companies such as Meta and Goldman Sachs, as well as receive comprehensive support from their education team.
Rocket Academy aims to connect students to high-growth roles that will foster Hong Kong’s future as a leading innovation and tech hub.
“The ‘Stanford’ of coding bootcamps is what we strive to be. We attract top talent, provide intensive training, and open doors to career-defining roles at prominent companies. Our alumni network that provides lifelong opportunities is what sets us apart. It offers connections and resources that foster long-term student success and post-graduate achievement,” concluded Kai.
Following their entry into Hong Kong, Rocket plans to expand internationally to Australia and the US in the coming years.
Rocket Academy is accepting applications until April 14th, 2023, for eight Code for Tomorrow Scholarships. Learn more here.
