Marketing and PR firm Pinocchio Communications establishes plus-size model management company “ChubbyChubby Model Management” for Hong Kong and Taiwan-based models.

Hoping to overturn deep-rooted Asian beauty standards, Hong Kong-based marketing and PR agency Pinocchio Communications Limited has established a plus-size model management company, ChubbyChubby Model Management, recruiting models locally and in Taiwan. With growing demand for inclusivity in brands, sourcing models that represent all members of the community is becoming standardised. Promoting the Body Positivity Movement, the firm is spreading the message that “beauty doesn’t have a weight limit.”

Although a wider range of representation has occurred in Western media over the recent years, the representation of plus-size body types remains a rarity in Asia. This led to Pinocchio Communications recruiting plus-size models in 2021, and then to the founding of “ChubbyChubby” this year, taking on a team of 30 talents from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Not only are their recruits professional models or performers, but also office workers or moms exploring new career opportunities.

Mr. Vincent Tsui, the Co-founder of Pinocchio Communications and ChubbyChubby commented, “As an international metropolitan, Hong Kong should keep abreast of the emerging vogue to create more possibilities. Curvy beauties should be given enough exposure to different media fields, including runway shows, magazines, graphics, films and television, music videos, theatrical performances and product seeding.”

Senior PR consultant and the Co-founder of Pinocchio Communications and ChubbyChubby, Mr. Terence Yam, added “Paving the way for these beauties to perform is just the first step. What we would really like to achieve is to unearth and showcase their personal traits and attributes confidently. We are here to build a stage so that more plus-size women can pursue their dream under the media spotlight.”

Chaya is a music group composed of two of ChubbyChubby’s team members, Carmen and Circle, who are spreading their love and optimistic attitude towards life through their comforting voices and songs.

Another model, Charis Chan, is a budding fashion designer, and created a themed collection of T-shirts and media artworks for the agency.

The model management firm has also established “Chubby Union,” a community where people can connect with brands and individuals who support the body positive movement and share designer fashion information. ChubbyChubby will also be initiating an extensive promotional campaign in Hong Kong seeking new recruits and welcoming collaborations.
