Sustainable fashion nonprofit Redress joins forces with global talents to highlight innovation in Hong Kong, emphasising designers’ pivotal role in reshaping the industry for enhanced sustainability.

Environmental NGO Redress, committed to fostering a circular fashion industry, has partnered with emerging talents to spotlight sustainable fashion through an editorial photoshoot. Featuring the Redress Design Award 2023 Finalists‘ upcoming runway creations, the photoshoot embodies the theme ‘Reflection,’ underscoring the significant role designers play in sustainable fashion creation.

Organised by Redress and backed by Create Hong Kong, the Redress Design Award supports transformative and forward-thinking fashion endeavours. This year’s finalists will partake in an expenses-covered educational trip to Hong Kong, culminating in a runway showcase at the Grand Final Fashion Show on September 7, 2023.

The photoshoot was styled by Hong Kong’s Kayla Wong and captured the essence of ‘reflection’ in mirrored aesthetics, symbolising the need for contemplation on textile waste’s environmental impact.

The showcased looks will also be featured in the printed and digital Redress Design Award 2023 magazine. The environmental footprint of transporting finalists’ collections for the photoshoot and grand finale was offset through UPS carbon-neutral shipping.

The finalists’ collections are a testament to circular design solutions addressing textile waste. Ingenious approaches include denim scraps transformed into fabric, plastic and electronic waste fashioned into embellishments, and a zero-waste appliqué technique utilising minute textile fragments.

Kayla Wong, stylist for the photoshoot and Founder of LANG store, expressed excitement about collaborating with future fashion change-makers. “The Finalists of the Redress Design Award are the next generation of creatives who will change the future of fashion,” she remarked.
