For poetry enthusiasts in the neighbourhood, Spoke & Bird Poetry presents yet another enlightening open mic event at the Hive Carpenter. An extensive and enriching experience into spoken word poetry with the diverse voices in the local poetry community. The open mic displays beautiful wordplay, meaningful social contexts, and a powerful message from the featured poets, in the curation of lyrical poems and unique theatrics for the audience to explore the inclusive sides of slam poetry. Following an incredible round of spoken word readings by Jollin Tan, with her confessional poetry on the body, memory and art, Shawn Hoo, author of the forthcoming debut chapbook, OF THE FLORIDA, and Laili Abdeen, painting scenes through her poetic expression.

Comedy at ikigai
Singapore’s most illustrious drag queen and iconic comedian, Kumar, is leading a one-person show this summer, in a special feature at Comdey at ikigai. Keeping the local community well entertained for over 20 years now, the drag queen has embarked on television, films, and lately is seen humouring audiences with her live stage sets, non-stop jokes, and splendid lip-sync performances. The local legend is admired far beyond Kumar’s entertaining persona, shedding light on LGBTQ+ issues in Asia as well as raising awareness on other controversial issues in local politics with her satirical comedy.
In this refreshing comedic show, Kumar continues to humour all discussing taboos in Singapore, through quirky racial and sexual observations.
